.history.

Mylen was born a blacksmith's son, and the oldest of four. His parents were new to parenting and made all their first mistakes with him, though they were generally thoughtful and kept him out of trouble. He was mostly raised by his mother, his father hard at work all day making enough money for the three of them to eke out a living. But the moment he turned ten, his father took him into the forge, and showed him the hammer, the anvil, and the works. He became fascinated with shaping things and watching them go from something completely useless to something beautiful, using only tools, the fire, and the craftman's hands. He wasn't allowed to actually try the forge until he was fourteen, however. Until then he was only allowed to watch his father and help out with chores around the forge, like bringing water.

The moment he did lay his hands on the hammer, though, he felt elated, striking with enough fervor to shatter the world. Unfortunately, he produced something anyone would be embarrassed to have on their horse's hooves. This was when he learned the importance of technique and finesse, and that having energy and the will to do something wouldn't magically get the job done for him. With this in mind, he helped his father out for the next five years, until age nineteen, when he was tested for magic potential. He went in expecting to blow it off and get back home, and came out rather surprised. He had a history of being 'nothing special' at everything, so...why him? Why was he, of everyone in his lineage, receiving this gift? With a disbelieving wave to his three siblings and his parents as he left for the school, he could only wonder what awaited him.

A month later, one extremely happy Mylen exited the school, having just barely passed the exams and become a mage. And promptly had no idea what to do. He had all this MONEY thrown at him, and not the slightest clue what to do with it. He isn't particularly into all the high society stuff, so he bought a nice (large!) house on the outskirts of Reyse, where it would be nice and quiet and he'd still be close enough to be "on call" should he need to be. When he wondered what it was like having a big house as a child, he never thought it would be so, well, boring! At the moment he's looking for some people to live with, as he would be very uncomfortable with a maid or butler at his age, and he's getting awfully lonely just by himself. He's taken up buying and reselling to fill the time between requests.

.personality.

Mylen's still an impulsive boy, doing what he thinks is right and good, and very stubborn. This can lead him into some unfortunate things, due to his single-mindedness and inability to be deterred from a course. Raised in a simple way fitting of someone only slightly above the rank of commoner like him, he was never introduced to the fineries of life, like dance, grooming, or even the more subtle parts of romance. He has a natural cunning and adaptability to situations to him, and a life helping his father in the forge has made him strong and agile, but when it comes to culture, it's completely lost on him, the boy who doesn't even bother to comb his hair before going to dinner. Though, after a month of Everthorne and nearly a year of living a life where he's been expected to have more class, he at least cleans himself up when he's expected to be formal. He still prefers informality, though. You can take the boy out of the country, but you can never take the country out of the boy.

He tends to not show it when he's in trouble, holding the philosophy that if something's wrong, he shouldn't drag anyone else down in it with him. Though, he's not the best actor, so if one cares enough to observe him, he will often get quieter when something unpleasant is happening to him. He speaks loudly, figuring that if he says it, others ought to hear him, and has a slight accent from living out in the country. This accent has gone down considerably since he was tested, though it still persists in his speaking if one cares enough to listen for it.

.appearance.

The first thing one may notice when they look at Mylen would be his striking white hair. It's run in the Redwood family since generations ago, and it's a very unusual colour. We today would call it a pigment deficiency, but Mylen just calls it weird. He does enjoy it, though, as he says it makes him stand out more! He has a handsome face when he cares enough to clean it up. His skin is tanned from working in the forge half the time and being in the sun the other half. He's tall, unlike his father, from his mother's side of the family. He just skims six feet, and as a result, looked really strange in his earlier teen years, a very lanky look.

.miscalleneous.
